Broadfield was planned in 1967 and building began in 1969 across around 562 acres, considerably larger than most of Crawley's other neighbourhoods, with an original aim of providing around 4,000 homes for roughly 14,000 people.
Because it was built in several stages through the 1970s, Broadfield has a genuine mix of private estates, council housing, housing association properties and self-build plots, which means garage types and ages vary a good deal within the neighbourhood.
A densely built part of the town
Broadfield sits outside Crawley's ring road to the south-west of the town centre, and its relatively dense layout compared with some of the more spread-out villages this site covers can mean less space around a garage to work with.
